Due to the Whitechapel expansion project the Café/Bar is not open to the public. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience

The Whitechapel café was transformed by Turner Prize nominee, Liam Gillick as part of his exhibition The Wood Way (03 May - 23 June 2001). The artist worked on the re-design to create a lighter more contemporary space for visitors. The greater variety of seating allows for more formal or intimate meetings and business lunches, but also the chance for open-ended conversation on the long central table.

The café is designed as a multi-functional space, which can be transformed into the ideal setting for a private party, launch or dinner in the evening. As an empty space, the café/bar can accommodate 80 guests, whilst comfortably seating up to 40 guests for dinner.

Situated on the mezzanine level, the café is open throughout the day and all our food is freshly prepared on the premises by our in-house chef, Christy Robson. As well as lunches, the café offers freshly made coffees, teas and snacks throughout the day and is also fully licensed.

Whether you are visiting an exhibition or live, work or study in the area, the café provides a respite from the bustle of the high street. An offer of 10% discount is available for Whitechapel supporters. All proceeds from the café directly support the Whitechapel's programme of exhibitions and education activities.
