The fifth year of Creative Connections paired four artists; Matthew Krishanu, Albert Potrony, Victoria Turnbull and Emma Smith with teachers from four secondary schools; Imrana Khanum from Raine’s Foundation School in Tower Hamlets, Natalie Gray and Angela Rogerson from Langdon Park School in Tower Hamlets, Iysha Miah from Clapton Girls Technology College in Hackney and Eve Beazley from Brampton Manor School in Newham.
During the construction phase at the Whitechapel, Creative Connections continues to run in partnership with other galleries showing exhibitions of contemporary art and other projects led by the Whitechapel.
The group of artists and teachers take part in training sessions at the Whitechapel and partner galleries. The first training session took place at Barbican, The Curve Gallery which was showing a new commission by Richard Wilson. These sessions prepared participants for two exciting projects held in each of the schools over the coming academic year.
During the final term each artist is commissioned by the gallery to produce an art work for their respective schools in response to their experiences through the year. The project culminates with A Year in the Life - a week long exhibition of the artwork produced by students and artists working on the project.
